Laura Beth Fossett was born and raised in Daingerfield,
Texas, where she learned the value of hard work and perseverance. She went on
to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Abilene Christian
University before completing both her Juris Doctor and Master of Business
Administration at Texas Tech University in 2011. Later that year, she was
admitted to the Texas Bar and began her legal career.
After briefly working in private practice, Laura Beth
followed her true calling—public service. In 2012, she joined the Lubbock
Criminal District Attorney’s Office, where she had previously interned, and has
dedicated her career to serving the people of Lubbock ever since.
She began as a misdemeanor prosecutor in County Court Two,
later advancing to the 137th District Court, where she became Chief Prosecutor
in 2015—the same year she married her husband, Calvin. As Chief of the 137th,
Laura Beth focused on some of the most difficult and sensitive cases, including
those involving the sexual abuse of children.
In 2020, she was promoted to Felony Trial Chief, overseeing
all felony prosecutors in Lubbock County’s three District Courts and mentoring
the next generation of attorneys. Her leadership and commitment to justice
earned her recognition as one of Lubbock’s “Top 20 Under 40,” a nomination for
Young Lawyer of the Year, and multiple awards from the Crime Victim Coalition
of West Texas.
Most recently, in 2023, Laura Beth became Chief Prosecuting
Attorney, taking on the responsibility of managing all murder cases in the
137th District Court. In every role, she has worked tirelessly to ensure
justice, fairness, and efficiency in the courtroom. She is committed to
bringing that same dedication and integrity to the bench.
Outside of the courtroom, Laura Beth devotes her time to her
family—her husband Calvin, their two children, and two dogs. Her family is
actively involved at Redeemer Church, and she has a strong record of community
service. She is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Lubbock after 10
years of active service, serves on her children’s PTA board, and is a board
member of the Children’s Advocacy Center.
For Laura Beth, the pursuit of justice and service to others
are not just part of her career—they are a way of life.
